Patchwork and Whiplash

So-- I've got the first half of my patchwork Coach done in time for Whiplash Week 6, theme: Colour!! This has been my biggest counterfeit crochet challenge yet. I decided to use cotton, to mimic the original fabric. The pattern I kind of just made up as I went along...but all in single crochet stitch this time--no fancy pattern stitches. It's more of an interpretation than a copy.... But, I think I like it...

Mother's Day and Counterfeit Crochet

I've been reading Stephanie from anti-factory's blog for over a year now. I am also trying to recover from an addiction to her wonderful handmade-recycled clothing. She is an artist first and foremost, and has a new project featuring Counterfeit Crochet Handbags. I started out with something I thought would be pretty easy (turned out harder than I thought): a Dior Diorissimo Large Shopper.

It took a lot more fine-detail work than I had prepared for, but it turned out pretty good. So, after the first one was finished, I was addicted. I decided my next project would be for my mom for Mother's Day, which only left me about 10 days to finish. I picked the Chanel Cambon Pochette in pink, because pink is her favorite color and she has worn Chanel No.5 for years. I finished it just in time to send off priority mail yesterday.

I think my next one will be a Patchwork Coach. I bought my yarn yesterday. I guess I am addicted.

Hello.
I am usually just a reader of blogs, and find many an inspiration from them. I decided that maybe I could try this stuff out for myself... just to see how it goes. I am not a professional designer or artist. I've always been your basic math and science gal, with creative tendencies.

I've spent most of my life in school, with most of my free time tied up in studying/planning for the future. I finally graduated in 2004 with my doctorate of optometry, a far cry from my undergraduate degree in philosophy (although, the eyes are the window to the soul). So- now I'm an eye doctor, working per diem for another optometrist who has several offices. I love this arrangement--when I come home, I don't have to bring any work home with me. I don't have any kids, just 3 adorable, energetic dogs. My husband is a high school English teacher, and often has papers to grade in the evening. This has left me with something new: free time! Just within the past year I have discovered crafts of all kinds. First, I was only a purchaser of homemade wares. Then I got the idea that, Hey! I could do that! I started out with embroidery, moved on to crochet, knitting, sewing, felt appliques, cooking... I can't stop!!

My friends and family are asking what my next project is, so I decided to create this blog as a showcase for my craft attempts. And just maybe I can inspire some other "math/science" gals to try some creative craftiness as well.
